Writing Challenge For October

  • Mood:
  • Music: [crickets] can't write with music going

Okay, I'm blowing off the dust bunnies on this here blog... Finally going to use it for something. My wonderful CP has given me a writing challenge to see how much of my new novel I can get completed in 1 month. And I decided I'd record the progress here (and hopefully not embarrass myself by how painfully slow a writer I am). I'm hoping that using the blog to record the progress will serve as a sort of "accountability" and will prod me along more than my own self-nagging, that becomes too easy to ignore.

So, here we are, October 1. Day 1.

To chart my progress, I'm going to use these really cool writing progress meters available over at Writertopia.com. Makes it seem more fun. (I'm easily amused, what can I say?)

So, here's how things look today.

Task for today: Firm up my GMC for the main characters, maybe decide on a couple plot turning points, but I will not overplot like I made the mistake of doing last time and ended up killing my enthusiasm for the story. I thought I was a hard lined plotter, but I've come to realize I'm more of a pantser with plotter tendencies and my real plotting skills are more useful during revision than First Draft. During First Draft, plotting too much seems to hinder me more than help.

And here's how the word count looks right now. I'm not exactly writing from 0 here, this idea has been kicking around for a while and I have written "some" stuff down while not "officially" working on this project until today.

At the same time I'm starting this new project, I'm also working on the tail end of a revision that I want to finish up "speedy-quick" as Junie B. Jones says. On that front, here's my progress there:

Wish me luck!
